The United States (1,033 Bcm) leads well ahead of Russia (630 Bcm) — a relatively recent shift, driven by the shale-gas revolution (hydraulic fracturing) of the 2010s, which made the United States the world's top natural gas producer after decades of Soviet, then Russian, dominance.
