Coal — three views: production (million tonnes, annual 1981-2024), consumption (exajoules, annual 1965-2024) and proven reserves (a snapshot, repeated across the whole slider range to stay visible whatever year is selected).

China (4,780 Mt) produces nearly five times as much as India (1,085 Mt), the world's second producer — a scale with no equivalent among the fossil fuels covered by Atlas, reflecting the structural dependence of China's power system on coal, still the largest single source in its mix despite massive renewables investment.
