China (140 Mt) and India (113 Mt) lead ahead of Russia (83 Mt), which is nonetheless widely seen as the reference wheat basket since the war in Ukraine — a gap driven by domestic population to feed rather than export vocation: China and India consume most of their output at home, while Russia exports a far larger share of its harvest.
