France (91 million visitors in 2019) remains by far the world's top tourist destination, ahead of Spain (84 million) and the United States (79 million) — a ranking driven by a dense heritage, a central position in Europe and a tourism infrastructure built over more than a century, rather than by sheer country or population size.
