An exchange is not the economy around it. Amsterdam and Zurich weigh far more than their countries, because multinational groups are listed there without producing there.
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq together account for close to half of world capitalisation — a concentration with no historical equivalent. Europe, split across a dozen national exchanges, does not reach a third of the American total despite a comparable GDP.
