Titles counted from the official "by nation" table on each competition's Wikipedia page. Two cases settled by the federations themselves, kept as is: Russia inherits the USSR's 1960 title and Czechia inherits Czechoslovakia's 1976 one (official UEFA convention); Morocco is credited with the 2025 AFCON following the CAF appeal panel's ruling of 17 March 2026, which disqualified Senegal over final-match incidents.
Discrete steps calibrated separately for each competition: Argentina's Copa América maximum (16 titles) has nothing to do with the Asian Cup maximum (4) — reusing a shared scale would flatten each tournament's nuances.
Argentina and Uruguay share most of the Copa América — 16 and 15 titles out of 47 editions, more than half the roll of honour between them. In the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt (7 titles) comfortably leads Cameroon (5); Mexico dominates the North American Gold Cup with 13 titles. A geographic curiosity: the OFC Nations Cup counts Tahiti (2012) among its winners — French Polynesia, a territory, not a sovereign state.
