World champion nations, football and rugby
The roll of honour of world champion nations, in two independent tabs: Football (21 editions since 1930) and Rugby Union (10 editions since 1987) — two distinct competitions, not two readings of the same series.
Titles counted per country from the Wikipedia pages dedicated to each competition. England, the only constituent nation of the United Kingdom to have won either competition (football 1966, rugby 2003), is shown apart from the rest of the UK rather than merged into a shared shading.
Discrete steps: each shade matches an exact number of titles, not a range, since this is a whole-number count. Hovering over a shaded country shows the years of each of its titles.
Brazil remains the only nation to have won five football World Cups; Spain joined Argentina, France and Uruguay as two-time champions after its 2026 title. In rugby, South Africa is the most decorated nation with four crowns, the latest won in 2023 — the next men's World Cup is played in 2027.
